Verizon's response to Genachowski's net neutrality action

Verizon has long championed an open Internet, and we strive constantly to provide the best wireline and wireless Internet access for our customers.

We appreciate the tone and tenor of the Chairman's remarks, and we will work constructively with the FCC throughout this process.

We have consistently supported the Four Principles adopted by the FCC to protect consumer choice in the Internet space, and they are achieving that objective. We are encouraged that the FCC is building a record and will base its decision on the facts. We believe that when the FCC reviews the record and looks at the facts, it will be clear that there is no current problem which justifies the risk of imposing a new set of regulations that will limit consumer choices and affect content providers, application developers, device manufacturers and network builders. Particularly in today's economy, America cannot afford regulations that may have the unintended consequence of stifling technological innovation, jobs and investment.

We will continue to work to place the control of the Internet experience where it should be -- in the hands of consumers who make informed choices about the services they receive. --Tom Tauke, Verizon executive vice president of public affairs, policy and communications
