While many service providers are clearly upgrading their core and edge networks with 40 Gbps capabilities, it's clear they are already making the move to 100 Gbps. Recent news from AT&T, Qwest and Verizon signify such a trend. Verizon has been clearly the most aggressive by upgrading a key European route, which will be followed by upgrade of existing routes in its U.S. market throughout 2010, while AT&T recently conducted a 100 Gbps Ethernet trial in its Southern region.
