Some of the usual suspects are on the lists for bidders hoping to compete for 28 GHz and 24 GHz licenses that are being teed up by the FCC for the first-ever millimeter wave auctions.
AT&T Spectrum Frontiers, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Frontier Communications and Windstream are among those submitting applications for the 28 GHz auction, also known as Auction 101.
AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Cox Communications, Starry Spectrum Holdings, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Windstream are among those in the running for the 24 GHz auction, also known as Auction 102.
The 28 GHz auction is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Nov. 14, and will offer 3,072 Upper Microwave Flexible Use Service (UMFUS) licenses in the 27.5–28.35 GHz (28 GHz) band. The 24 GHz auction, which will be scheduled to begin after the conclusion of bidding in the 28 GHz auction, will offer 2,909 UMFUS licenses in the 24.25–24.45 GHz and 24.75–25.25 GHz (24 GHz) band.

The FCC reviewed the short-form applications for the auctions and classified them into categories listed as “Complete” and “Incomplete.” The FCC is giving applicants time to fix their applications if need be and resubmit them by Oct. 23. Upfront payments for the 28 GHz auction also are due by 6 p.m. Eastern time on Oct. 23.
