A report published by Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) identified seven 5G device form factors that have been announced since the first 5G networks were turned on late last year.
The GSA’s 5G Device Ecosystem report lists form factors such as smartphones, hotspots, snap-on dongles and adapters, indoor and outdoor customer premises equipment (CPE) and modules, from 23 different vendors. All told, there are now 33 5G devices that have been announced.
A total of 12 5G smartphones have been announced from vendors ZTE, Xiaomi, Vivo, Samsung, TCL, Sony, Oppo, OnePlus, Nubia, LG and Huawei. 5G dongles and adapters have been announced from Dogee and Motorola, according to the report. Hotspot devices have been launched by HTC, Huawei, Inseego, Netgear and WNC.
Vendors D-Link, Huawei, Inseego, Nokia and Samsung have announced indoor or outdoor CPE. In the U.S., Verizon has tapped Samsung for CPE devices to support its 5G fixed wireless service.

The report also identified 5G chipsets from five vendors, including Huawei, Intel, Qualcomm, Mediatek and Samsung. Eighteen of the announced 5G devices uses Qualcomm chips, according to the report. Intel recently announced it would drop its 5G smartphone modem plans, but will continue to pursue other 5G opportunities.
