Alca-Lu rolls out mobile app development tools

Alcatel-Lucent announced a series of new capabilities promising to help operators open their networks to developers and content providers in an effort to accelerate creation of mobile apps. According to Alca-Lu, its new Application Exposure Suite solution enables operators to make network assets available via "exposure layer," providing developers secure access to functionalities like billing, location and connection optimization to bolster web-based services and new mash-up capabilities. AES promises operators key services across their enablers, such as secure access to network assets and subscriber privacy.

In addition, Alcatel-Lucent premiered its Open API service, enabling managed and controlled access to aggregated network capabilities through a web portal. Alca-Lu notes the Open API Service allows developers to leverage enablers from multiple carriers in one place, effectively eliminating the need to establish individual relationships with carriers. Developers instead enter into one contractual agreement to receive access to APIs along with technical support and testing tools.
