Android freelance development gigs up 20% in Q2, BlackBerry down 6%

Freelance mobile software development jobs increased 12 percent in the second quarter of 2011 according to new data published by outsourcing marketplace Freelancer.com. Although Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone operating system yielded the most Freelancer.com mobile development jobs at 2985 projects, up 9 percent over the first quarter, Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android experienced the greatest quarterly growth, increasing 20 percent quarter-over-quarter to 1702 jobs. Freelancer.com adds that at if Android work continues at the same rate, it will surpass iPhone projects by the end of 2012. 

BlackBerry jobs on Freelancer.com slipped 6 percent in the second quarter, falling from 526 gigs to 497. Jobs targeting Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) legacy Windows Mobile dropped 16 percent quarter-over-quarter; its successor Windows Phone did not land on the Freelancer Fast 50 chart.  

HTML5 projects experienced the most dramatic quarter-over-quarter gain on the Freelancer.com platform, with jobs increasing 34 percent from 604 to 807. The ascendance of HTML5 corresponds with diminishing demand for Adobe Flash jobs, which dropped from 3,398 to 3,056--down 10 percent compared to the first quarter.
