Appcelerator debuts cross-platform development solution

Mobile software development platform provider Appcelerator announced the general availability of Appcelerator Titanium 1.0, a cross-platform solution promising developers performance comparable to the iPhone and Android SDKs. According to Appcelerator, Titanium 1.0 enables web-based, creation of native mobile, desktop and iPad applications optimized across multiple operating systems, complete with native user experience capabilities and native access to the underlying device capabilities on each platform--the firm notes its mobile processing engine delivers load times under three seconds, down from 10 to 20 seconds, as well as instantaneous transitions between pages. Titanium also boasts more than 100 native UI controls, native 2D/3D animation capabilities, and data and media presentation capabilities, enabling the creation of branded applications, casual games and augmented reality apps.

Alongside Titanium, Appcelerator debuted Titanium Community--a free service offering new developers insight and tips on building native applications--and Titanium Professional (available for $199 per developer per month), which supplies premium SLA-driven support, analytics spanning six months, and membership in Appcelerator's Beta Preview program for future releases. The firm also unveiled Developer Center, featuring new documentation, getting started guides and code examples. Appcelerator reports that its professional developer ecosystem now tops the 27,000 mark.
