Card.io launches m-payment SDK for iOS developers

Card.io, a startup founded by former AdMob employees Mike Mettler and Josh Bleecher Snyder, launched its m-commerce SDK for Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS platform, enabling developers to integrate payment processing services into their mobile applications. The card.io solution automatically reads credit card information using the smartphone's camera, enabling users to process transactions without swiping the card through a hardware extension or inputting account information. Card.io is not targeting retailers but instead is pitching its technology to developers working on e-commerce, local, ticketing, travel and daily deal apps, partnering with MogoTix for event tickets, TaskRabbit for local services and SamaSource for donations.

Developers can request early access to the card.io iOS SDK program here. The firm adds it is working to expand the program to Android. In conjunction with the iOS launch, card.io announced the close of a $1 million seed funding round with contributions from AdMob founder Omar Hamoui as well as Jeff Clavier and Charles Hudson of SoftTech VC and Manu Kumar of K9 Venture.
