Forum Nokia PRO Accelerator program debuts

Nokia launched its new Forum Nokia PRO Accelerator developer support program, promising an expanded set of technical, marketing, business development and channel distribution tools targeted to developers of mobile software and services tapped for funding by top-tier venture capital firms, among them the handset giant's own Nokia Growth Partners unit. Forum Nokia PRO Accelerator becomes the highest-level developer tier in the Forum Nokia PRO developer program, founded in February 2004 to offer business and technical benefits to accelerate the development cycle--Accelerator membership is open by invitation-only and at no additional cost to current members of the Forum Nokia PRO developer support initiative. Two charter members of the Accelerator program have been announced: Digital media platform provider Kyte and image-processing software solutions developer Morpho.

To broaden access to additional Forum Nokia developer resources, Nokia said it will also eliminate annual Forum Nokia PRO fees as well as cut by over half annual membership fees for the Forum Nokia Launchpad program, which provides tools and support to developers working with Nokia device platforms. The Launchpad fee reduction arrives in tandem with news Nokia will ease its insistence that participating developers provide a Publisher ID, making the requirement optional in an effort to streamline the registration process and reduce costs and time associated with acquiring a Publisher ID for developers joining the Nokia entry-level developer program.
