Industry non-profit the LiMo Foundation, launched one year ago to increase the adoption of Linux within the mobile industry, announced the addition of new member organizations Acrodea, ETRI, Huawei, Purple Labs, and Trolltech. The firms join LiMo co-founders Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics and Vodafone in their continuing efforts to create a globally competitive, Linux-based software platform for mobile devices. "This latest wave of new members brings further mobile device and platform integration leaders into the LiMo ecosystem," said LiMo Foundation executive director Morgan Gillis in a prepared statement. "We are delighted to see them joining forces with existing LiMo members to accelerate the delivery of innovative new handsets, applications and services."
In related LiMo news, the alliance tapped open mobile software developer Azingo as a core tech provider for its Common Integration Environment, which will support development and testing of Linux-based devices. The LiMo CIE includes Azingo's software phone emulator, testing and bug tracking tools, software management tools and reference mobile phone applications based on the LiMo platform APIs. The CIE will be implemented in 2008 among LiMo members to integrate and validate upcoming software releases, maximize collaboration, eliminate integration redundancies and abbreviate platform release schedules.
