LiMo Platform R2 to hit market in Q4

Open source mobile consortium the LiMo Foundation announced completion on specifications for the second release of the LiMo Platform, adding that R2 will ship in next-gen LiMo handsets beginning in the fourth quarter of 2009. Included in R2: Integrated support for OMTP's BONDI v1.0 specification, which standardizes a set of device interfaces for web applications and widgets to offer developers common web authoring tools for creating software that runs across all LiMo R2 devices supporting web runtimes. According to the LiMo Foundation, LiMo Platform is the first mobile industry platform to provide explicit support for BONDI technologies.

The R2 platform also includes enhancements to the existing R1 framework along with a series of new frameworks contributed by both LiMo members and/or derived from Open Source communities. Technologies supported by the R2 platform include location-based services, multimedia, personal information management and advanced security applications.
