Microsoft to launch Windows Mobile 6.5 on May 11

Microsoft announced it will formally introduce its Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system May 11 in conjunction with its Tech-Ed 2009 event in Los Angeles. According to the Windows Mobile Team Blog, Microsoft's Mobile Communications Business' GM of Business Experiences Stephanie Ferguson will kick off the presentation of Windows Mobile 6.5--the Tech-Ed presentation is targeted at both developers and IT professionals, promising a demo and an outline of WinMo milestones to come.

While Microsoft has not yet confirmed an official timetable for devices based on WinMo 6.5 to hit retail, most onlookers expect phones will begin shipping in Septembe. From there, the smart money suggests Microsoft will release Windows Mobile 7.0 to testers in November, with devices following in April 2010.
