Motorola rolls out RhoElements HTML5 app framework

Motorola Solutions (NYSE:MSI) launched RhoElements, a web-based application framework enabling developers to build and deploy applications targeting existing Motorola Windows Embedded Handheld (formerly Windows Mobile) and Windows Embedded Compact (Win-CE) mobile computers as well as the manufacturer's new ET1 Android-based enterprise tablet.

Created for developers within Motorola's customer base and PartnerEmpower ecosystem, RhoElements leverages Motorola's PocketBrowser framework for web-based line-of-business applications. RhoElements provides an HTML5/advanced JavaScript/CSS application framework designed to simplify the transition from terminal emulation solutions or legacy browser-based applications to web-based apps, promising developers the tools to offer enterprise-specific applications offering a consistent, consumer-quality user experience across device types, screen sizes and operating systems.

Motorola Solutions adds that RhoElements supports HTML5 features like application caching and web storage, enabling developers to optimize network utilization and enable seamless operation even in the event that users temporarily lose connectivity. It also exposes developers to device-level APIs giving them access to features included in Motorola enterprise mobile computers.

Motorola Solutions acquired cross-cross platform app development platform provider Rhomobile in late July. The company adds it plans to unveil additional tools leveraging the Rhomobile product suite in the coming months.
