Palm announced that the latest version of its webOS smartphone platform is now available to consumers via over-the-air update. According to Palm, webOS 1.4 enables users to capture, edit and share video, with direct uploads to Facebook or YouTube--additionally, a notification light alerts consumers when messages, appointments or related content arrives, even if the screen is off. webOS 1.4 also boasts enhancements to native applications like calendar, phone, messaging and email, highlighted by a series of shortcuts enabling more efficient calling and texting direct from the call log and from messaging conversations.
Palm also promises improved software performance, with webOS applications now loading and responding to gestures more quickly. In addition, the update accelerates application launches and boosts performance and responsiveness within a variety of apps.
