Qualcomm confirms work on Android platform

Wireless solutions provider Qualcomm confirmed it is at work developing a mobile platform in support of Google's fledgling Android OS. Qualcomm COO Sanjay Jha, speaking last week at an analysts presentation (just days before his exit to take over Motorola's devices unit), said the firm expects a large number of Android devices will operate on Qualcomm platforms. The first commercial Android devices are expected to hit stores this autumn. Qualcomm is a member of the Open Handset Alliance, the mobile technology industry coalition spearheaded by Google to support Android development.
