Sprint Nextel will purchase UbiquiTel, a Sprint affiliate with 450,000 subscribers across the Western U.S., for $1 billion. UbiquiTel sued Sprint last year to prevent the Sprint-Nextel merger on the grounds that it violated an agreement that Sprint would not compete with its affiliates.
