Sprint opens up location services platform

Sprint announced partnerships with location solutions providers WaveMarket and uLocate Communicates in an effort to assist developers creating new location-based services for the operator's subscribers. Per terms of the agreement, Sprint will offer open access to WaveMarket's Veriplace and uLocate's WHERE location aggregation platforms, enabling developers to enhance their applications, mobile websites and messaging campaigns via location-based technology. According to Sprint, both Veriplace and WHERE guarantee consumer privacy and security while offering developers a consistent environment to build permission-based apps that deliver customized information and services based on subscriber whereabouts. Developers can access a handset's location via standards-based web-service API, with WaveMarket and uLocate taking care of identity, authentication and permissions.
