Sun announces next-gen Java platform

Sun, along with 13 partner companies, has announced full support for the Mobile Services Architecture (MSA). MSA is the latest Java platform for mobile devices and was developed as part of the Java Community Process and has been in the works for nearly three years. It promises to provide a more fully-featured and consistent set of APIs across the various Java-enabled handsets. It also raises the bar for the minimum API support that developer's can rely on, which will make it much easier to create applications that do things like consume Web Services or access Location Based Services. MSA is available now with support for the Sun Java Wireless Client, NetBeans Mobility Pack 5.5 and the Sun Java Wireless Toolkit 2.5 for CLDC. Release | Specs
