Video compression solutions provider On2 Technologies announced an agreement with electronics giant Texas Instruments to implement On2's TrueMotion VP6 and VP7 video compression formats on TI's OMAP platform and DaVinci technology for mobile handsets and digital video applications. Per terms of the deal, the two firms will share technology and development resources enabling TI to optimize VP6 and VP7 codec performance for a variety of video applications across its community of development partners. On2 was named a TI development partner earlier this year. "This is a far-reaching agreement in that TI's technology leads the industry for mobile handsets and IP video devices," said On2 Technologies president and CEO Bill Joll in a prepared statement. "What this means for On2 and the market in general is that VP6- and VP7-based cross platform high-quality video will be available for a wide range of mobile, IPTV, and web video devices."
