Service providers deploying a Nortel 40G coherent solution can evolve their networks to add 100Gbps wavelengths as soon as their business dictates, deploying 100Gbps on their existing network with similar transmission attributes as those currently allowed today. This ability is made possible by exploiting linear coherent receiver characteristics.
