Alca-Lu teams on big data platforms

SK Telecom has joined forced with Bell Labs, the research arm of Alcatel-Lucent to conduct research on big data platforms and video analytics systems.
 
The pair has agreed to jointly research big data analytics engines and platforms, along with next-generation video analytics technologies and systems.
 
Byun Jae-Woan, chief technical officer of SK Telecom, expects the joint efforts will lead to the creation of new innovative telecom services by combining the Korean mobile carrier’s know how in telecoms and Bell Labs’ source technologies in the telecoms field.
 
Based on its homegrown big data-related large scale distributed storage system and parallel processing technology, SK Telecom said it is already operating Geovision, a business platform offering site location/ trading area analysis, which is based on the operator’s homegrown big data-related large scale distributed storage system and parallel processing technology.
 
The company is also actively developing next-generation video technologies like smart video recorder, SK Telecom added.
