Alca-Lu to expand Mobifone's network

Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services has awarded Alcatel-Lucent a $48 million contract to expand its Mobifone mobile network.

Under the agreement, Alca-Lu will deploy more than 1,400 GSM/EDGE base stations. Alca-Lu will provide full turn-key services for the network upgrade, which should be completed by April. This will enable Mobifone to offer a range of new content services by the end of 2009.

According to Alcatel-Lucent managing director Raoul Ros, Alca-Lu has had a close relationship with Mobifone since 1993.

'Alcatel-Lucent has worked hard to meet Mobifone's exacting standards as it strives to provide state-of-art service to its customers and we So we are delighted to be chosen again for their faith in our technology and expertise,' he says.

This year Vietnam's mobile phone service providers grew to more than 48 million subscribers, 90 percent of which are pre-paid customers, According to Vietnam's Ministry of Communication.
