Alca-Lu to shed another 1,000 jobs

Alcatel-Lucent will cut another 1,000 jobs in France in 2009-10, according to company insiders.
 
Unnamed officials told both AFP and Dow Jones Newswires of the cuts, which will affect administrative and sales positions at several units as well as some industrial activities.
 
Affected units will include Alcatel-Lucent France, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise and the company headquarters.
 
A staff meeting was reportedly held on Friday to discuss the cost cutting plan.
 
The Paris-based vendor announced plans to cut 6,000 jobs company-wide – including 1,000 management positions - late last year
 
The company will also transfer around 1,000 jobs to HP as part of a global product alliance, and is in talks to sell its fixed-line R&D department.
