Alcatel-Lucent expands IP portfolio

Alcatel-Lucent has announced extensive additions to its IP service routing portfolio, a Wireless News report said. Alcatel-Lucent claims the 7750 Service Router (SR) and 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) will now deliver Terabit performance to support the growing market for more personalised broadband offerings such as IPTV, WebTV, Virtual Private Networks, and 3G/4G mobile.

The 7750 SR and 7450 ESS improvements use Alcatel-Lucent's new FP2 chipset, the result of three-year's R&D, which delivers network processing and traffic management at speeds up to 100Gbps.

The upgrades to the current products include more than double the density of Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports as well as supporting up to ten times the number of services per router, thereby reducing CAPEX and OPEX, reducing power consumption and making more efficient use of bandwidth.

The FP2 chipset also provides a path to 100 Gigabit Ethernet, improving return on investment compared with other edge routers which use lower performing and smaller scale 10Gb/s Network Processors, according to Alcatel-Lucent.
