Alcatel-Lucent seals Indonesian Ethernet contract

Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (PT Telkom), a fixed telephone service provider in Indonesia, to deploy its carrier Ethernet solution, which will enable PT Telkom to offer advanced services to businesses, with improved scale and hierarchical quality of service (QoS) across a unified IP/MPLS networks infrastructure.

Alcatel-Lucent said it is deploying almost 300 exchanges in greater Jakarta, West Java, Kalimantan and Sumatra, representing the largest carrier Ethernet network in the country.

Alcatel-Lucent is deploying a carrier Ethernet network based on its 7750 Service Router, 7450 Ethernet Service Switch, 7250 Service Access Switch and 7705 Service Aggregation Router, all managed end-to-end by the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 Service Aware Manager.

PT Telkom claimed the network will support it in its next-generation network transformation while allowing it to introduce new advanced services to businesses in Indonesia.

Carrier Ethernet uses high-external link bandwidth external link Ethernet technology for external link internet access and for communication and will be used to deliver Ethernet VPN and IP VPN services along with circuit emulation to consolidate legacy enterprise applications.
