Alcatel-Lucent in True WiMax trials in Thailand

Alcatel-Lucent is planning a trial of wireless broadband services using WiMAX Rev-e technology with True, a telecomms provider in Thailand.

True will be provided with a comprehensive WiMAX solution, which operates on the 2.5 GHz frequency band, by Alcatel-Lucent for the trial.

Base stations, wireless access controller, operation and maintenance centre, customer premises equipment (CPE) will all be included along with WiMax CPE and wireless cards for laptop computers, so that internet broadband access can be delivered on the move.

WiMax engineering expertise and integration services from Alcatel-Lucent will also be available during the trial, which will be conducted on the outskirts of Bangkok in Phatumthanee province.

True claims to be a leader of convergence solutions in Thailand and it expects to offer its customers the benefits of WiMAX-based technologies, enabling customers on the move in its remote areas, seamless and uninterrupted connection to advanced services.

True Group said it has more than 12.5 million mobile subscribers and 570,000 wireline broadband customers, with the addition of WiMAX broadband services, it hopes to further the concept of today's convergence lifestyle.
