Alcatel-Lucent wins wireless contract in Morocco

Alcatel-Lucent has signed a two year frame agreement, valued at €24 million, with WANA, a subsidiary of ONA group, which offers fixed and mobile services in Morocco.

The deployment of Alcatel-Lucent's wireless transmission solutions is expected to improve capacity and extend the reach of WANA's network to meet the increasing demand for broadband throughout the country.

Alcatel-Lucent claims that its wireless transmission solution will offer a seamless migration path to a high capacity microwave infrastructure, while enabling WANA to protect existing investments.

As traffic aggregation and transport from base stations to the core network will be optimised, WANA will be able to offer voice, video and data services with greater efficiency and better quality of service.

WANA is banking on this investment enabling it to increase its customer base which currently stands at over 1 million subscribers.
