Authorities uncover massive online ID theft in S. Korea

South Korean authorities are investigating a massive online identity theft in connection with the popular online game "Lineage," an Associated Press report said.

The report said more than 220,000 South Koreans had been victims of online identity theft, and that some had already filed formal complaints.

Quoting Seoul-based game company NCSoft, the report said the victims filed the complaints after discovering that accounts for the game had been set up in their names without their knowledge.

The report said although there had been no reports of any financial losses, the case had raised concern that such leaked personal information could be used for more serious crimes.
