Mexico's Axtel is using Comptel's Convergent Mediation Solution and Provisioning and Activation Solution to support the newly launched number portability scheme in the country.
Launched in Mexico last July, operators in Brazil and other countries in Latin America are now also planning to offer number portability to their customers.
A recent Telesemana survey showed that 92% of operators in the region believe wireless number portability will be necessary by 2010.
At the same time, 72% of respondents considered it necessary to do some changes in their current OSS/BSS systems to support this scheme.
