Batelco, Omantel sign VPN interconnect deal

Bahrain telco Batelco is boosting its OSS capabilities through a MPLS IP VPN interconnection deal with Omani operator Omantel.

The pair has teamed up to offer bi-lateral data IP services between the two Middle East countries, in a move Batelco claims will also offer one-stop-shop transit services to each telco’s respective customers. The telco also states the deal strengthens its services for carrier and corporate customers in all Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which include Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman.

Adel Daylami, general manager of Batelco’s Enterprise and Government division, says the Omantel deal is an important addition to his firm’s portfolio of OSS agreements, and advances its international carrier relations strategy by expanding its “IP data services to reach all major destinations.”
