Cellular base station market bounces back

Analysis of the global base station market for the fourth quarter of 2007 showed an increase over the third quarter of last year with 53 contracts awarded. Unlike Q3, there were no announced billion dollar deals. The research, carried out by EJL Wireless Research, reveals Huawei in first place with 34 percent of the contracts, edging out Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks. Alcatel Lucent, the leader for the first three quarters, was in fourth spot. WCDMA/HSPA and EVDO technologies dominated the market with a 74 per cent share and demand shifted from Asia Pacific back to Europe, reflecting the higher concentration of 3G contracts awarded.
