Clearwire 4G services roll out in US

Clearwire, Comcast and Sprint announced plans on Friday to launch their 4G mobile internet services in 11 new cities by year end.

Comcast and Sprint will use Clearwire’s mobile Wimax network under their own brands, Clearwire’s 4G service is branded Clear, Comcast’s is HighSpeed 2Go and Sprint’s is branded Spring 4G.

All three companies plans to launch service in Philadelphia in the next several weeks, with Chicago and Seattle/Tacoma following shortly thereafter and a staggered launch to other cities planned through to year end.

The Wimax network service is the result of a network merger struck last year between Clearwire and Sprint Nextel.
