Communications sector upbeat amid the crisis

Most communications service providers are confident about the economic potential of the telecom sector, with 80% seeing the market withstanding the downturn, and expecting growth throughout the rest of the year, according to a Comptel User Group survey.

Operators in emerging markets are seen to have fared better than those in the developed regions. Mobile operators are also perceived as luckier than their fixed and broadband counterparts.

More than two-thirds of those polled believe mobile broadband – which is expected to be the highest growth area in the next 18 months – is the major driving factor of the telecom industry’s upbeat attitude.
