Deutsche Telekom qualifies in FCC wireless auction

T-Mobile USA, a unit of Deutsche Telekom, has secured the approval of the US Federal Communications Commission to participate in an upcoming auction of wireless licenses in the US, an Associated Press report said.

The report said the auction of 1,122 licenses, slated to begin on August 9, covered slices of the airwaves that were currently used by the federal government.

The FCC also issued a list of more than 80 would-be participants whose applications were rejected, the report said.

Two of those competitors, Cingular Wireless and Verizon Wireless, were also on the list of qualified bidders, even though both already had much more spectrum than T-Mobile, the report said.
