Dutch cable MSO opts for Arris' DOCSIS 3.0 kit

Ziggo, the Dutch multiservice cable operator has placed an initial order for the ARRIS Touchstone TM702 series of DOCSIS 3.0-certified home hubs.

Ziggo - formed by the merger of @HOME, Casema and Multikabel - will use the CPE devices to market faster internet speeds and with carrier-grade VoIP service to "the top tier of its more than three million residential and business customers".

The company did not say when the services would be launched or what speeds would be on offer, although DOCSIS 3.o covers aggregated speeds of over 100Mbps each way. However, most operators have restricted such speeds to the download channel only.

"In the highly-competitive Northern European market, we need to offer our subscribers the highest quality internet and voice experience possible," said Ziggo CTO Paul Hendriks. "ARRIS is at the forefront of technological innovation in DOCSIS head end and CPE equipment and we feel confident that they will help us offer our customers a compelling and extremely competitive DOCSIS 3.0 solution."
