Ericsson says new base stations to cut costs for operators

Equipment giant Ericsson has unveiled its new generation of higher capacity base stations, a Reuters report said.

The report said Ericsson's new RBS 3000 base stations would allow operators to provide a range of services such as high-speed mobile broadband at low cost.

The base stations had 50% to 150% greater capacity but with lower power consumption, the report said.

The report also said the company had launched a new multi-access base station for both GSM and W-CDMA access, which also boosted capacity and cut costs.
