Financial crisis beginning to impact global mobile industry, says research

The ongoing financial crisis started to make an impact on the global mobile telecoms sector during the second half of 2008, says new research from Informa Telecoms & Media suggesting the slowdown in the growth of global mobile subscription numbers and the device market is likely to accelerate in 2009. Informa claims the world's mobile subscription market grew by 18.5 per cent y-o-y in 2008 (down from 22.5 per cent growth in 2007) and is set to increase by just 12.7 per cent this year, although the company says it does note that this reduction in growth is partly due to the effect of natural market development, particularly in Western Europe and the USA.
