Free GPS firmware update

Rohde & Schwarz now offers a new firmware update for its R&S SMx-K44 GPS option as a free-of-charge download from the Internet. With the updated GPS option, the R&S SMU200A, R&S SMATE200A and R&S SMJ100A signal generators now supply, for each baseband, signals that may come from up to four dynamic GPS satellites.

A GPS receiver connected to the equipment then becomes capable of position finding. The R&S SMx-K44 option provides the capability to perform localization tests on GPS terminal equipment and modules.

The firmware enables the generation of P-code encrypted signals, which are used by the precision positioning service that enables positioning at a higher accuracy and is reserved exclusively for specific civil and military users.
