Gartner: Mobile video to drive over 60% of data traffic in 2018

Mobile data traffic will continue to show double-digit growth in 2015, according to Gartner. The research company expects traffic to grow 59 per cent this year, driven by newer and faster networks, a rise in the number of network users, and more affordable 3G and 4G handsets. Mobile video is by far the biggest driver of mobile data. Gartner noted that data it has collected from various mobile providers suggests that mobile video is generating 50 per cent of all mobile data. The company expects video streaming to account for over 60 per cent of mobile data traffic in 2018, as consumers increase the number of videos they watch and upload. Fast, uninterrupted, video experiences encourage people to increase their video usage. Release
