The Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) forecasts that the total market for LTE Broadcast services will reach around $14 billion (€13 billion) globally by the end of 2020. In a new report, the association noted that although the figure seems large, it only amounts to around a 1.5 per cent uplift on total global mobile revenues. The report also found that there is rising interest in LTE Broadcast and increasing evidence of a solid business case for deployment. The GSA predicts that numbers of deployments will grow significantly over the next five years, reaching a potential customer base of 2 billion by 2020. Over 30 mobile operators have so been involved in technical lab or field trials of LTE Broadcast services based on eMBMS with a view to using it to reduce the load on their networks by broadcasting popular TV and video content rather than sending it to each viewer individually. Many more are planning to trial the technology in the coming 12-24 months. Report
