Gulf telco buys Indian operator

Batelco, Bahrain's national operator, has teamed up with a Dubai-based private equity business to buy a $225m stake in an Indian mobile phone company, as Gulf telecoms companies continue an overseas buying spree, the Financial Times reports.

Middle East telecoms companies have spent more than US$43 billion on acquisitions and licenses since 2006, according to Dealogic expanding in developing economies from Africa to Indonesia.
