HTC unveils new Android line-up

HTC has unveiled its two new smartphones, Legend and Desire, which incorporate its enhanced HTC Sense user interface and Android version 2.1.

The revamped HTC Sense includes new aggregated social networking web app HTC Friend Stream.

The feature allows the user to view Twitter, FaceBook and Flickr friends’ updates, shared links and pictures in a seamless view.

HTC Sense also includes a new newsreader application and widget, as well as a new seven-screen “Leap” thumbnail view for quick and easy access to specific screens.

Meanwhile, the HTC Legend smartphone – the successor to the popular Hero device – features a 3.2-inch Amoled display, an improvement on Hero’s 3.2-inch LCD screen.

Vodafone will offer Legend smartphones exclusively in Europe from April, with the device to roll out to other parts of the globe, including Asia, early in the second quarter.

“Vodafone customers will experience a differentiated experience on the HTC Legend which will come customized for them with pre-loaded Vodafone 360 internet services,” said Patrick Chomet, group director of terminals for Vodafone.

Telstra will begin marketing HTC Desire devices to its NextG customers in April.

HTC Desire uses a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, includes a 3.7 inch, amoled display and is Adobe Flash 10.1 ready. It is similar to Google’s Nexus One smartphone.

“HTC Desire will be broadly available to customers across major European and Asian markets in early Q2,” said HTC.

The upgraded HTC Sense UI will also be offered as a free over-the-air upgrade on HTC Hero devices in Europe and Asia.
