Huawei passes Alca-Lu in mobile vendor rankings

Huawei has doubled its mobile equipment market share and passed Alcatel-Lucent as the No. 3 vendor, according to Dell'Oro's first quarter rankings.

Industry leader Ericsson has maintained its position and expanded its lead over Nokia Siemens. Ericsson has a 33% market share, while NSN has dropped to 21%, down from 24% a year ago.

Huawei doubled its market share to 15%, while Alcatel-Lucent saw its market share drop to 14%, down from 16% a year ago, according to Dell'Oro.

Alcatel-Lucent is forecasting a contraction in the mobile equipment market of 8% to 12% this year. Nokia Siemens is predicting a 10% decline.

Dell'Oro said the market contracted 9% in the quarter compared with last year's quarter, but that Chinese 3G contracts prevented an even steeper decline.

“Intense price competition among vendors vying for share of the Chinese 3G tenders resulted in very steep price erosion, particularly in CDMA,” Dell'Oro analyst Scott Siegler told Reuters.
