IHS: Apple Watch success needed for a smart watch mega boom

The smart watch market will grow from 3.6 million unit shipments in 2014 to 101 million in 2020 according to a new report by IHS. The research company expects the Apple Watch to drive the overall market, with Apple's entry into the smart watch market expected to benefit all smart watch suppliers by raising consumer awareness of the category. The Apple Watch will also leave an enormous addressable market untapped because it requires a modern iPhone and has a starting price of $349 (€310). The 2 billion Android smartphone users and those Apple customers unwilling to spend so much on a smart watch form a large target for Android smart watch makers, the report added. Release
