iPhone App Store rings up 300 million downloads

Last Friday Apple bought full-page adverts in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal to announce that 300 million apps have been downloaded from its App Store, according to Reuters.

The App Store opened for business in July and the 200 millionth app download was reported by the company on 21 October.

The number of apps has risen past 10,000, up from 5,500 in October and 500 in July. Most are offered by third-party developers, some for free and some for a fee, Reuters comments.
