IPTV poised for further growth in China

European research firm UBS Securities predicts that China will have an IPTV user base of 500,000, a SinoCast report said.

The report said the boom in IPTV use is due in part to the increasing broadband subscriber base of China Telecom and China Netcom.

The two firms' subscribers will rise to 63 million with an annual growth rate of 28% from 2005 to 2008, the report said.

ZTE, a leading telecom equipment maker and wireless solution provider in the country, meanwhile has taken the lion's share in China's fledging IPTV market.

The company's IPTV equipment is available for the broadband network based on several different standards.
