Japan's DoCoMo reports 25% drop in profit

Profit at Japan's top mobile phone carrier NTT DoCoMo fell 25% in the most recent quarter as operating expenses increased amid intensifying competition, an Associated Press report said.

The Associated Press report said the carrier's net income totaled 122.8 billion yen ($1.03 billion) in the April-June quarter, compared with 163.5 billion yen ($1.32 billion) the same period a year earlier, according to a company statement.

Sales fell 2.9% to 1.183 trillion yen ($9.94 billion) from 1.219 trillion yen ($10.6 billion), the report further said.
