Japan's KDDI posts 9% profit growth

Japanese mobile carrier KDDI reported that group net profit for the April-June quarter rose 9.0% to 82.49 billion yen ($683.91 million) from 75.65 billion yen ($627.20 million) a year earlier, driven mainly by the continued strength of its cellular business as well as lower non-operating costs, a Dow Jones report said.

The Dow Jones report said the carrier's group revenue increased 5.7% to 844.08 billion yen ($7 billion) from 798.40 billion yen ($6.62 billion), while operating profit climbed 16% to 140.90 billion yen ($1.17 billion) from 121.93 billion yen ($1.01 billion).

While the company's fixed-line services continued to struggle, operating profits in its 'au' mobile phone services continued to grow, offsetting operating losses in its fixed-line operations, the Dow Jones report said.

For the entire year, KDDI left its outlook unchanged for a group net profit of 220 billion yen ($1.82 billion) and revenue of 3.5 trillion yen ($29.02 billion), the Dow Jones report further said.
