Microsoft considering job cuts across the board

Reuters reports that Microsoft is considering job cuts across its various divisions, citing The Wall Street Journal report published yesterday. The source was given as "people familiar with the company's plans."

The Journal also said that Microsoft was looking at alternative methods of controlling costs.

Microsoft, which employs about 91,000 people, hasn't commented.

The number of potential job cuts is likely to be far less than the 15,000 positions that have been rumored in recent weeks, the Journal reported.

Microsoft might announce the job cuts when it reports quarterly earnings next week, it added.
