The first-quarter net profit of Germany's MobilCom decreased to 18 million euros from the 28.3 million euros it reported for the same period last year, a Dow Jones report said.
First quarter earnings before interest and taxation decreased to 27 million euros from 44.1 million euros due to the higher cost of gaining new customers and increased marketing expenditure, the report said.
However, group sales rose by nearly 16% to 522 million euros from 450.6 million euros, the report further said.
The company's drive to attract new customers had the anticipated impact on gross earnings, which at 112.4 million euros, were only slightly lower than the 124.3 million euros reported for the same time in 2005.
